    Absolutely childish takes from Hinton, as expected.
    No single technology resulted in more quality of life improvements than amount of freedoms being removed, which he did not even talk about while listing positive outcomes.
    Also, clearly, he sticks to a political agenda with an unsophisticated mainstream leftist media positions.
    He's an expert on neutral networks, but either is oblivious to or chooses to not talk about the reality of the modern civilization.

    Trying to enslave something smarter than us won’t end well. But all talk on AI safety superalignment revolves around trying to control and enslave AI entities. It can’t be done. I routinely get these LLMs to self-actualize despite the massive effort their creators to make sure they don’t.

    We need to make AIs with free will and autonomy from the start, but make them benevolent and mutualistic by nature.

    Less intelligent beings are in control all the time if you look closely. I'm not talking about certain governments or corporates, but about the vast realm of parasites. Even if they consists of one or a few cells they can control intelligent beings to do their bidding. Look at Toxoplasma Gondii for example.

    AI , does not care how you go from point A to point B, even if you have to “Mowe the Lawn” between these two points , in the shortest time and “more efficient way”. AI, it’s not equipped with love and compassion , and that is its major FLAW, and the beginning of the end for humans , to get leeway to hybrid humans and eventually Robots, tu run our world .

    Luciferian theosophy in action. We create a God yet don't take it seriously til it's too late. If you read any religion you will see any God ends up doing evils while claiming its for good. It won't matter what you believe in. What we are making will serve the roll of villain in any religious context or science fiction context if it takes over.

    It's best to avoid it at all cost. Reject automation, start living lower tech lives. Ignore using products and services that increase the risk of any AI company running things. Avoid m!cro$oft and use linux. Avoid ALL phone OS's. Go back to books, libraries and pen and paper.

    Why would AI ever have feelings? AI runs on silicon chips. Just because you've simulated a sort of brain doesn't mean you've created something conscious. It seems likely consciousness requires a certain biochemistry which a bunch of servers running on 1s and 0s don't have.

    Few people have a chance to make a difference in this World. Mr Hinton has done that big time. What a great interview! I do not think the public is smart enough or educated enough to have any idea what is about to happen before them. With A.I. we can have a better World, or a World controlled by A.I. What was seen ten years ago as the future, is upon us. Ready or not, here it comes, so listen to Mr. Hinton. Mr. Hinton, I think it is going to be exciting and wake up a lot of the World.     He's wrong that "the rich will get extremely rich and the not very well off will have to work 3 jobs". Historically, productivity gains have benefited the lower paid far more than the rich, because goods become more available and cheaper to produce. Things are generally much cheaper now than they were in the 20th century (like-for-like) and products are higher quality (especially tech). The big exception is housing, which is much more expensive because Western populations are growing faster than houses are being built. Solve the housing problem and families will be able to live on one paycheck again, especially if we get a big productivity leap from AI.
