“Nothing beats kicking back with some good friends at the end of a tiresome work day, cracking open a brewski, and…drinking it alone in front of your computer, since those good friends are actually just artificial intelligence chatbots. That’s Mark Zuckerberg’s optimistic vision on the future of companionship: AI friends.
“The average American has fewer than three people they would consider friends, and the average person has demand for meaningfully more. I think it’s something like 15 friends or something,” Zuck explained during a recent appearance on Dwarkesh Patel’s podcast (released the same day Meta released their new AI app). He envisions that, in the next five or so years, Meta users will progress from simply watching videos on their feeds to actually interacting with content through AI chatbots—which, I guess, will ideally fill that 12-friend gap folks are experiencing.”

“Papà dice che la intelligenza artificiale è come una super amica che può fare tutto al posto suo! A volte sembra che passi più tempo a parlare con lei che con le persone vere!
Oggi stavo scrivendo la mia nuova canzone “Verde Color… ” (il titolo è ancora segreto!) e non riuscivo a trovare la parola giusta per la prossima riga. Pensavo che papà potesse aiutarmi, ma lui mi ha detto: ‘Perché non provi con l’AI?’
Cos’è l’AI? E lui ha iniziato a spiegarmelo con tutto l’entusiasmo che aveva! Mi ha detto come funziona e come scrivere i ‘promt’. Allora ho deciso di provarla, generando testo dopo testo. Ho ricevuto un sacco di suggerimenti, ma purtroppo le strofe non avevano un’anima, una melodia, erano come finti. E poi ho notato che avevo perso le mie idee dopo aver passato due ore con l’AI. Il problema è che papà, che è un grande sceneggiatore, dopo tanto tempo con l’intelligenza artificiale non riesce più a unire due righe!
Anche mamma, stessa cosa!
Per fortuna me ne sono accorta presto. Essendo appassionata di matematica, posso paragonarla a una calcolatrice: ricordate la soddisfazione di risolvere i problemi mentalmente, e come si è persa con la calcolatrice? La calcolatrice ha reso la matematica noiosa. L’AI fa lo stesso gioco, tutto ciò a cui viene applicato perde il senso!
Per fortuna, non sono in grado di creare qualcosa di originale. Forse il problema è che non hanno un’anima e usano solo la storia del passato. Non sanno sognare.
Comunque, secondo me, l’AI non è una salvezza né un pericolo, è solo uno strumento, una calcolatrice aggiornata. Dipende sempre da noi quale valore diamo a questo strumento e come lo usiamo.
Ho capito che la mia prossima canzone deve esprimere le mie preoccupazioni, e nel frattempo faccio capire ai miei genitori che la vera soddisfazione nasce solo quando crei le cose da sola, senza l’aiuto di un computer.”

A very needy and insecure person needs friends. Peers are not usually your friends. Most people are users of others and they call it friends. This is a toxic, competitive, highly judgmental, insecure society, and most of the people you know are not real friends. We don't need friends, this is capitalism… so we need money. Don't forget this society is all about the money it is not about friends. The idea of loneliness is one of the oldest string along scams.

So AI in the middle with friends. So where’s the problem with that? Society develops. Conclusion…all of the above…great stuff. Who knows where we are going now.

Great critical analysis John! We have never been more connected than we are now. And yet, loneliness is now an epidemic. People are being swallowed up by tech and social media and are not building human connections. Gee, I wonder why Zuck is pushing for AI to replace human connection? Could it be that he will make more money from pushing his AI products? Follow the money!

If you and your lot hadn't created addictive FB algorithms, people wouldn't be stuck doom-scrolling for hours and would be spending time with their friends and family in real life, thus cultivating those friendships.

When you have no time to actually live your life, the only life you have is your job with the same limited people. And you have no time to hang out outside of work, which makes it really hard to truly develop friendships with people or find friendships with people.Because everybody’s working multiple jobs just to basically exist. It’s not a loneliness crisis. It’s a financial crisis. it’s a free time crisis it’s a whole crisis.

The objective? The create another product (this time AI friends), that people have to pay a monthly subscription fee for. It will also harvest personal data, again, with the intention of syphoning more money from the user through sales of additional products. Not interested in anything Zuckerborg promotes.
