Top 5 | Paris-Roubaix Tech Trends 2021
Paris-Roubaix is the toughest one-day race on the pro cycling calendar and a feast of road cycling tech, with the world’s best riders pitting their bikes and bodies against the brutal cobbles of northern France.
With last year’s Paris-Roubaix cancelled and this year’s pushed back six months, we’ve had two-and-a-half years of bike development since the pros last took to the race’s notorious pavé.
And that was reflected in the choice of bikes and equipment for the 2021 Hell of the North, in both the men’s race and the first-ever edition of the Paris-Roubaix Femmes.
That, coupled with bad weather and cobbles caked in mud through the weekend – the first properly wet Paris-Roubaix since 2002 – meant that there was a marked shift in equipment on display at this year’s race.
Perhaps Paris-Roubaix should be moved permanently to October? This year’s race has been more of a spectacle than we’ve seen for years and an opportunity for us to see where the future of road bikes is heading.

Never liked Continental's GP tyres. I think people choose them for other reasons than performance, maybe they don't know better? Glad to see other major brands jump on board like Pirelli, heck even Goodyear.

0:40 I did notice that the Deceuninck-Quickstep rider had red rear light on his seatpost. Very unusual and you say not normally found on pro-level road bikes.

the truth is, the use of diskbrakes in the pro peloton is never based on efficiency or necessity or because rimbrakes are inferior, but simply because manufacturers/sponsors forced it upon the teams .. proof of this is the recent uci world championships where you can find a lot riders still using rimbrakes .. in other words, pros ride or use whatever bike and tech the sponsors want them to ride or use, they have no choice ..

YES, this classic should even be the last Pro race of the year, but why do I think this ?
a) It would perfectly close the Pro schedule
b) Those that get injured have all Winter to recover (I heard that 1 racer suffered a broken pelvis and another broken bone, ouch)
c) therefore, maybe, more riders would sign-up to ride it

I wonder if the Ineos switch was because the latest Shimano Dura Ace release, as in the new Dura Ace wheels are only available in Disc brake only, and with Shimano providing neutral services and the peloton being 99% disc brake. I currently use continental gp5000 tubeless on my current bike.

I think sunglass technology has to catch up. So many riders going without them and finishing with a half pound of Northern France stuffed into their eyeholes. Those that kept their sunnies couldn't see much better.

If I was riding this years course in those conditions I would be going with a 29×2.1 tire. It's the only way I would have a chance of staying upright.
