   I had an interview for a tech job and they spent the entire time asking me conflict resolution questions and very little technical anything. ow I felt about the Injustice against minorities and different scenarios on how I would address issues faced by minorities

   Had a recent technical interview. the person asked some stuff about bakcend and frontend, but it was really HARD to actually explain things, because I did not know the code. and when I asked, it was very…. obscure?

   like they want months worths of projects in your portfolio for some reason, which will never happen. IF you had the time, it would have been AFTER you graduated, and yet then you go and get a job, I have a portfolio but still, holy shit, the things they ask for?

   "impliment AI" sorry, thats not possible, it changes so much that it depends on WHAT system you're asking.

   "build your own AI" what type? because those only take a couple of hours to make, but months and a TON of money to train?

   I have seen in 2024 not one company, well maybe a few, but so many, not being able to understand what they want. that was my mistake…

   lol I’m cooked when she said cumulus I was oh ok bare metal switches running cumulus Linux ( noI owned by nvidia ) which is a NOS (network operating system ) so I guess she’s like a low level (low level like close to hardware wise ) network engineer and maybe fabrics. But lol no actually just clouds there’s a Linux thing named after everything these days

    Why would anyone want to write an AI for Meteorology?
    Meteorology is Physics – you need parallel math processing, not neural networks or Large Language Models.

    Another software engineer thinking Data Scientist means Fancy Programmer. It's way more closely related to math (and AI) than to programming. Your knowledge of AI is a much more relevant thing to ask about than DevOps or cybersec, because a Data Scientist can understand and implement a model. "models" is not just a fancy term to talk about LLMs, it's also time series forecasting, network prediction, recommendation systems, geospatial analysis…

    Ik there are many people who struggle getting a job and im not saying this too people who need the money today, but if this is an interview for a career move and you have an interview like this u dodged a bullet interviews are also for the company wanting to be your employer and while treating it as such in an interview will surely screw it up its important to not forget that

    I was interviewing for a company and everything was going well, then suddenly one dev said I had agreed to study something in the last interview and dropped the ball. It was pure nonsense. This was our first interview together and I'd taken a class to prep for this interview

    Of course – I crafted an AI from scratch based on the Lehmann-Filstrop coagulation hypothesis that uses quantum computing techniques to hype bitcoin sales to VC investors. It's an order of magnitute more accurate than Open AI's o1-full model, and Ive pocketed billions so far. Why else would I be interviewing for an entry level data science role today ?

    Had a "technical" interview – I work on combat flight sims, was expecting some technical questions relating to that since that was also the job I was going for… but instead they asked me if I knew agile and the "last time I pointed out a health and safety problem in the workplace" – I work from home.

    Skimming through the comments ensured me that even people seemingly working on AI don't actually know what constitutes as "building own AI". Training models? Coding wrappers for models? Building datasets? Building neural networks? Maybe just expert systems? Yet they're all confident that it's very easy.

    Honestly, though. If you are a new grad and haven't worked with AI/ML pipelines and algorithms, you probably aren't going to be an attractive hire for a tech facing role.

    AI is the future, like it or not. Everyone in the industry should have some familiarity with it

    This video hurts because I once talked about building a breadboard Z80 computer in an interview (reminded by the breadboard computer in the background) (it was my most recent project at the time). The interviewer waited to the end of the interview when I was preparing to leave to slightly condescendingly tell me that his son had built a PC… I managed to mutter something like "that's great" as my brain said "you can either take the hit, or insult his son…". I didn't get the job.

    Dude, I had a bs interview where they had the simplest python puzzle ever and I solved it like they asked and then they were like "gotcha! You were supposed to ask questions about scalability and architecture and cost!" and I'm like "srsly? Why didn't you just say 'eww a girl!' in the first place?"

    FUN FACT: the Interviewer in this sketch is a great only-barely-exaggerated example of the kind of gaslighting you can potentially expect in a real interview.

    I'm not saying your interview process will feel like that. I'm just saying: if it does feel like that. And if they turn you down, then: just breath a sigh of relief. Yes, you're probably in a bad way and need money. But if they gaslight you on first sight there's a 99% chance they'll break your brain if you work for them for six months.
