   I feel like people like me who had to make mods for quake 2 in college through the quake 2 engine and others are partly to blame how this was able to get ai generated 😅

   In this current form, this is not useful. The AI would need to be combined with 3D spatial information that would help it keep track of all the objects in the environment. This would give it object permanence and help it better understand how to render the environment. Which should also help with the lag.

    The issue I have with Primes take is that it's coming form a game dev. Was this Theo I would 100% agree, but I'm too cynical to see this as anything other that Prime coping as a game dev.

    The problem is that you have to put months into setting up one of these for your particular game, at which point you could have already just prototyped by hand and figured out what worked, which you will have to do anyways

    Assuming it won't become something more, just because this example is trained purely on Quake, seems rather shortsighted. Look at what AI image and video generators can already do. They can basically generate any visual you can imagine and describe coherently. Now imagine a game generator, with that wide a range of capabilities. Eventually methods of training such things will become more efficient.

    Quantum computers aren't magic, they perform the same as classical computers on a lot of problems, there's just a certain set of problems where they vastly outperform classical computers (like factorization).

    Yeah, I agree, actually building really challenging useful things is better than leetcode problems.
    Corrupt engineers ruined my life to the point that I ended up homeless. It was all I could do to do lc problems. Now, I do lc problems to put a quantifiable metric to how far I’ve progressed. It’s not about lc.

    it's like 1 shot tic tac toe or checkers / but its 100x or 500x .. only more complicated and probably a few million dollar demo… if code agents every truly work the 'dream' they'll be un-affordable to most companies and definitely individuals

    It takes a billion time the system requirements of Quake 2 to deliver 1 billionth of the gaming experience of the game. And that's already PEAK AI, and it takes 100x more power to get 5% better…

    I think a few people are just repeating the mantra "you don't understand exponential increase", but they themselves don't really understand the absurd, terrifying power of an exponential.

    First example of exponential: a +20% increase, you have 100 | 120 | 144 | 173 | 207 | 249 | 299 and so on. Nice!
    Second example, this is still an exponential, x10 each time: 0,0001 | 0,001 | 0,01 | 0,1 | 1 | 10 | 100 | 1.000 | 10.000 | 100.000 | 1.000.000
    Note: a +20% every period becomes a x10 every 12.6 periods, the result is the same, just slower. Try plotting an exponential over a large range. The picture you get is of a line that remains almost zero for a long time, then starts growing quickly in a short range, then grows out of control and breaks through the top border of the chart.

    Nothing in this world can really follow an exponential growth forever. Let's make a simple example: you play a game where you found a new village in an empty unpopulated area. You have a lot of resources, and are limited only by the work force. You grow exponentially. But then some resource will start to be limited, like space to build, clear water, food or whatever. You don't work any more with limitless resources, you start to face problems, people complain, the growth becomes more and more expensive and has to slow down.

    A more concrete example. The frequency at which CPUs work was growing like crazy in the '90, but then it had to stop, they approached some physical limit (or diminishing returns). At that time they started with multi-core CPUs, 2 at first, than 4, then 8, then … still 8 but with special accellerators inside. Again, a new limit was found, or a better way to direct the growth. The next break through could be 3D chips, but in any case we will be limited by power consumption and heat dissipation.

    Any exponential growth, or any growth that is "too good to be true", in the end will always be "too good to last forever". The question that no one can answer right now is for how long AI will continue to grow exponentially. One year? most likely. Three years? probably. Ten years? I've never seen something continuously grow for 10 years in the IT world, without taking a turn, trying a different approach, become something else. Apart from the size of applications in my phone. That will grow forever. Why is the simplest app for Android as big as Quake III Arena in the old days??
