Code 100x Faster with AI, Here’s How (No Hype, FULL Process)

Everyone knows that if you aren’t using an AI coding assistant, you are going to fall behind no matter what you are developing. But what people usually don’t know is how to actually use AI coding assistants (Windsurf, Cursor, Cline, Roo Code, etc.) effectively.
Having a well defined process for coding with AI is crucial to consistently get high quality output, and in this video I’ll walk you through my FULL process as we use it to build a Supabase MCP server step by step as our example – all the way from ideation to deploying it.
This process will apply no matter what you are building or which AI IDE you are using, and I’ve got some resources to share to save you a ton of time setting this all up yourself.

Hey Cole,
This is hands down the best video I’ve come across for working with AI. The reason is that I always like to think as *RAD* as possible.
Before AI, you might have set up a control sheet to feed f-strings into the code, creating a sort of funnel workflow for variables to avoid hardcoding. But the idea of templatizing prompts for efficient AI execution is truly a gem, and I deeply appreciate it.
I once had AI generate a batch file for building Docker images—it was decent—but this approach is far more comprehensive. It serves as an excellent launchpad for fine-tuning future projects.
Much appreciated, and thanks again!
Tip: When trying to copy a large bit of text, click at the start of your desired copy then keeping the focus on that start point go to the end of the copy location. Hit the shift key and click to grab that section of data. Instead of scrolling with the mouse key the whole section of data. Comes in handy for me all the time. It's the least I can offer for all of your contribution, 🚀

Just wanted to drop a comment, which I never do, about my experience with this process. This helped me so much as I was setting up Cline and working on a project. All of this is spot on and it has completely changed my success rate.
One thing that I tweaked, added… in addition to the planning and tasks md files, I made one called devnotes. I ran into a couple of issues with the way my project works as opposed to the default for the framework I am using. After we successfully debugged an issue I had Cline update the devnotes file in a way they explains what happened and how we fixed it.
Ran into the same problem on another task and I told it to look at the devnotes because this happened last time. Boom, fixed the issue right away. So I had it update the devnotes again for this round.
I plan to update the system prompt to have it also look at the devnotes file like it does planning and tasks. Hope this might work for others.
Thanks for the video, big time upgrade to my process.

Hey been using the file system mcp for a week. The agent often gets confused about whether to use it's default search tool or the mcp one. I wrote in the agent.md to only use the mcp file tool when operating outside of the project, but sometimes it tries in the project dir and jumbles up the path/errors. Wondering if you've had similar issues?

Similar workflow that I’ve been using but I saw this thread on X once that I found myself thinking about much later that was championing the idea that software reads a lot like a legal contract. That is a high level set of deliverables with finer and finer print as we zoom in. Keeping the AI from breaking all these fine grained rules like coding conventions, avoiding adding new dependencies and changes with minimal impact to existing tests to industry best practices stuff and so on. Seems like an interesting model (legal contracts) and we’re converging a bit. Hits and misses should be tracked a bit along the way to fine tune prompts

It is amazing that watching this, 80% of the rules you stated, I already learned them by using the tools for a few weeks, myself. Its just that nobody talks about them, and 99% of the tutorials online convince you that you can make a full app with one prompt, and make a snake game or flappy bird!!! Thanks for giving me confidence in my approach 😊

Awesome video. Personally I don't do test, I rather focus on logging and throwing errors in backend and fronted console. Feeding both and making a good plan to fix with tasks and subtask with roocode in architecht and followed wirh executing plan is crazy good with gemini 2.5 pro. Boomerang tasks in Roocode are also a perfect match. It's all growing exponentially

I am assuming you are a professional coder. Does matter if a line of code is indented or not indented. There is a lot of foreign stuff to me in this video but great video nonetheless. What did you AI code in here ? A DB 'server' ? Not sure. Also, what happens on a microprocessor level when we write code? Nobody knows ? Nano switches and gates open and close ?

Gold in Inspiration. How AI Interprets Our Code may reveal Fascinating observation about AI and code: Documentation, code Comments are actually counterproductive for already written code! Self-documenting code is vastly superior. Code comments often cause AI hallucinations because they introduce linguistic ambiguity and multiple interpretations.
Be cautious with documentation. My experiments with generalizations suggest there are ways to create code that aligns with model-optimized preferences. Similarly, excessive code splitting can trigger hallucinations, though sandboxing functions with minimal descriptions helps mitigate this.
The interesting reflection here: when examining what code and systems truly are at their core, you discover they're remarkably similar with minor variations. Our human-readable code and programming conventions are essentially just a facade over the fundamental structures beneath. (If my comment here leads to breakthroughs in anyone’s work I’m happy to hear about it.. because the “code comment” thing is a gem in efficiency gains)

your content is greatly appreciated (especially to non-coders like me) – thanks! I like your advice about global rules, can you provide a video on how to write specific rules for VS Code? I read your google doc, while helpful, it didn't go into the specific methods, prompts or steps to actually implement the rules. I know you pointed to the Cline docs but it's a bit overwhelming there.
